George Arthur Braman

George Arthur Braman, age 76, passed away April 10, 2024, at his home.


A 39-year resident of Romeo and Washington, George was born July 16, 1947 in Alma, Michigan to parents Lester and Helen (nee Gilbert) Braman. He was proud of his upbringing on the 160-acre family farm outside of Middleton, Michigan. Milking cows and raising turkeys showed him the value of working hard. While the family moved when George was 16, he carried the life lessons and fond memories of the farm with him throughout his life and career.


George was a 1965 graduate of Alpena High School.He went on to attend Michigan Technological University for a time before joining the US Army, where he served from 1969-1971. While in the Army, George served in Vietnam, Co. A 519 MI Bn(Military Intelligence) and attained the rank of Specialist 5. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal during his service.


After the Army George attended Oakland Community College and graduated Magna Cum Laude attaining an Associate Degree in Applied Science, Climate Control Systems. George went on to become a licensed Mechanical Contractor and was a member of Pipefitters Local 636 for 47 years.


George married Sewell “Betty” Riggs in 1973 in Pontiac, Michigan. They lived in Utica for many years before moving to the Romeo-Washington area.


George was also very involved in the leadershipfor Cub Scout Pack 87 and Boy Scout Troop 87 while his sons were in Scouting.


George enjoyed giving of himself and the challenge of fixing things for others or projects around the house and property. He lovedmusic, travel, camping, country western line dancing, hiking, campfire cooking,puzzles, puns, Scrabble games and spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, family and friends.He could always be found in his barn (“Grandpa’s Garage”) where he was willing to help you fix anything you needed. From a broken headlight to a broken heart. His family was his absolute pride and joy, including his siblings, in-laws, and his many nieces and nephews.


George is survived by his wife of almost 51 years Sewell “Betty” Braman, of Washington, Michigan; children Justin (Julie) Braman of Auburn Hills, Jacob (Sandra) Braman of Grosse Ile, Amanda (Matt) Donnelly of North Port Florida, Alison Braman of Washington Township, and Jon (Danielle) Braman of Clinton Township; siblings, Kay McKinnon, Jeannette Dilts, Lester “Dutch”(Linda) Braman, Mary Ellen “Toni” (Bob) Olmstead, and Carol Koch; grandchildren Avalyn, Travis, Julia, Alex, Nate, Robin, Finnley, Victoria, Brianna, and Natalie.


George is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Helen; his brother, Gilbert Dean Braman; and brothers-in-law Bill Dilts and Chuck McKinnon.


Visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan. Burial will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, 10:00 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
