It is with great sadness that our beloved Sister and Aunt, Jean Marie Allen , 70, of Romeo, Michigan, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023 in her sleep. Jean was born in Highland Park, MI on June 15, 1953, to Jack and Margaret Jean (Gleason) Allen. She grew up in Oak Park and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1971.
A very outgoing personality, Jean was always a very caring soul who loved to meet and talk with people and very much loved her pets. Involved in softball and field hockey in High School, she also enjoyed music and concerts, and loved to write. She published two children’s books.
Jean was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force at both the Minot Air Force Base and in the U.K. She worked with many people over the years at the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Edison, the U.S. Census, ADT Security, L&L Products (Romeo), Wolcott-Mill Metropark and many other social work positions in Michigan. She lived in Oak Park, Ferndale, Mancelona, and Romeo over her lifetime. She was also active in the Metropolitan Club Spirit 22. She loved her house and community in Romeo and was very happy spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors.
She is survived by her brother Jace Allen (Maureen) of Farmington Hills, and her sisters Ann Allen, of Ferndale, and Cynthia Allen, of Warren, as well as her beloved nephews and nieces, Lee Allen (Thelma) of Illinois (in China), Shawn Allen of Warren, Melissa Spangenberg (Dan) of Sacramento, CA, Jeremy Allen (Jasmine) of Bonaire, GA, Jennifer Ferguson of Vienna Twp., Zachery Allen of Midlothian, VA, and Cassandra Allen of Scottsdale, AZ, and also grand nephews/nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Jonathan Allen (Warren), Jerald Allen (Ferndale), and her brother Jeffrey Allen (Oak Park).
There will be a visitation at Henry M. Malberg funeral home in Romeo at 1:00 pm on Thursday November 16 , followed by a celebration of life at Four Corners diner in Romeo at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Road, St. 220 Bingham Farms, MI 48025-4507 (www.michiganhumane.org).
