Annie Safko

Annie Safko, age 82, a 47 year resident of Almont Township, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Almont Twp.  Annie was born November 25, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA., the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Cybak) Panko.  She married Edward Safko on September 19, 1948 at St Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hazleton, PA.  Annie belonged for many years at St Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden.  She enjoyed farming, gardening, and especially being with her children and babysitting her grandchildren.     Annie is survived by her husband Edward of Almont Twp., children Kathleen M. (John) Carver, Janine G. (Russell) Ruthenberg, & Christine A. (Russell) Jessel all of Almont Township.  Grandchildren include Alysia & Andrew Ruthenberg and Ryan, Jacqueline, & Brandon Jessel.   Annie has one brother Rudolph (Louise) Panko that survives along with many nieces & nephews and she was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia  A. and siblings,  John, Stanley, Michael, & Joseph Panko and her sister Mary Panko.     Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Fr. Wayne Ureel of St Cornelius Catholic Church of Dryden officiating.   Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-8 with a 7 PM rosary.
