Barbara Carol Garnecki
November 30, 1944 â€" March 7, 2015
Barbara Carol Garnecki (nee Ladd) of Romeo died March 7, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, of liver failure. She was 70, and passed away in the presence of her husband and eldest son.
Barbara was the daughter of Philip Ladd and Irene Frost. Born in Anchorage, AK, she was relocated to Scranton, PA at a very early age. There, she was raised through adolescence by her paternal grandmother, Suzanne, and later by her father and stepfamily. She graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1963. Following a string of odd jobs and youthful misadventures, she married in 1971 and dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker. She moved with her family to Montdale, PA, then Clinton Township, MI, before settling in Romeo.
Barbara worked for Romeo Community Schools for 10 years as a lunch mother. While she was always a believer, she joined the Roman Catholic Church later in life. She remained involved by mentoring prospective Church members through the RCIA program. Her hobbies included reading (especially mystery novels), movies (particularly Hollywood classics), bargain hunting, and dining out. She enjoyed decorating the family home for holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween. She maintained lifelong friendships with several dear friends in Pennsylvania. Barbara loved animals, and was the proud guardian of Maggie, a Yorkshire Terrier.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Philip Jr. of Romeo; and two sons, Philip Daniel of Shelby Township, and Alexander Paul of Sterling Heights. Her family will always miss the stories she told, the traditions she upheld, her recipes, and her strength of character. In accordance with her wishes, she has been cremated.
A Memorial Church Service will be held Monday, March 16, at 10:00 AM, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that mourners make a monetary contribution to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
