Berneda H. Hamilton, age 78, a resident of Romeo and formerly from Richmond, MI., passed away on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Romeo Continuing Care Center. Berneda was born June 21, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of Henry Waldo and Edith (Williams) Donovan. Berneda was an educator her whole life. After graduating from Wayne State University with a teaching degree, she went an obtained her Master’s Degree in English from Oakland University. She then started teaching in the Richmond School District and then in the Anchor Bay Schools. Berneda then went on to teach at the New Haven School District for over 25 years and while teaching she was the Director of Adult Education also. She enjoyed coaching and was the girls basketball coach at New Haven and was also the track coach in the spring. When she wasn’t working with the kids, she enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. Berneda is survived her children, Marlyn (Joe) Hnatow of Romeo, and Bryan (Sue) Hamilton of Shelby Twp. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons Keith Hamilton & Kerry Hamilton and her grandson Shaun. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. Mark Evans of St John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in New Baltimore, MI. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:30 AM till 11 AM, the time the religious service will take place.
