Bernice Rose Spanske, age 98, a 30 year resident of Almont, and previously from Florida and many years in the Warren, MI., area, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Bernice was born June 18, 1912 in Indiana, PA., the daughter of Valenti and Mary (Zrepsky) Kowalczyk. She married John Spanske in 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1996. Bernice worked for a short time at Ford Motor Company at its plant at 9 Mile and Mound Road. She enjoyed working in her beloved garden where she could grow anything, tending her flowers, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and listening to music. Since moving to Almont, she has been a member of St Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden. Bernice is survived by her children; Don (Stella) Spanske of Romeo and Charlotte (Dan) Cantwell of Capac. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald & Gloria Spanske of Roseville along with her siblings: Stephanie (Steve) Lindich, Violet Michaels, Sophie Majkowski and Stanley Kowalczyk.. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 16 at 11 AM at St Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden with Fr. Wayne Ureel officiating. Burial will take place on Thursday at 11 AM at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo.
