Betty M. White, age 81, a 60 year resident of Romeo, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at her home. Betty was born July 12, 1930 in Torbay, Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of William and Margherita (Bradbury) Martin. She married William White in 1950 in St John’s, Newfoundland. Betty was active in the Romeo area her whole life. She was known for the kid friendly house and all the neighbor kids spent lots of time at “Mom White’s†yard. Betty worked with her husband at the “Hillcrest Orchardâ€, with her daughter at “Stony Creek Orchard†and at Amanda Moore Elementary as a lunch mom and playground supervisor. She was an active member at St Clement Catholic Church and taught catechism class. She was a sports nut, enjoying the Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, especially the 1968 Tiger team. Betty loved to fish and especially being with her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all of her friends. Betty is survived by her husband Bill, children: Gloria (Jack) Dempsey of Marlette, MI., Bill (Mary Grace) White of Sterling Heights, Ron (Christine) White of Romeo, Carol (Roger) Ross of Romeo, Annette (Scott) Engelbert of Bruce Crossing, MI., and Joe (Jennifer) White also of Romeo. Also survived by 22 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews in both Michigan and Newfoundland, Canada. Betty was preceded in death by her grandchildren Rob White, Julie Graver, her brother Ronald Martin, and her sister Mary Frances Mahr. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo. Burial will follow in the Romeo Cemetery, Donations to Down Syndrome would be appreciated.
