Cecil D. Rhodes

Cecil D. Rhodes, age 88, a 34 year resident of Romeo and formerly from Warren, MI., passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. Cecil was born August 7, 1922 in Pittsburg, PA., the son of Harry and Margaret (Flaherty) Rhodes. He married the former Carol Garmroth on March 5, 1949 in Grosse Pointe, MI. Cecil worked for Occidental Metals for over 30 years in its maintenance department, retiring in 1988. Upon retirement, he worked with the Hahn family at Bruce Hills Golf Course as its greens keeper, and helped in the construction of the back nine holes at the course. He also helped at R.E.I. in Armada Township in the outside maintenance department and his hobbies include gardening, golfing, and watching his beloved Detroit Tigers. Cecil is survived by his wife Carol, children: Kathleen Rhodes of Madison Heights, MI., Colleen M. (Douglas) Carnes of Newport News, Virginia, and Eileen Rhodes of Romeo. Grandchildren include Sean & Aaron Carnes and Heather Addison. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 1 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with burial to follow at the Bruce-Armada Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from noon until 1 PM, the time of service.
