Charles Edsel (Ed) Aikman, age 92, a lifelong Washington/Romeo area resident, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Orchard Grove Health Campus in Romeo, Michigan. Ed was born January 28, 1928 in Rochester, MI the son of C. Harold and Grace (Schmidt) Aikman. He married Ann Proctor (Saul) on August 26, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church, Romeo; she preceded him in death on June 13, 2009. Ed served in the Army/Air Force at the end of World War II in Germany, then started working for Ford Motor Company where he worked in skilled trades. After retiring from Ford, he proudly worked at the Romeo Cemetery as a groundskeeper; which lead to him helping to insure that all Veterans would receive an America flag for Memorial Day. He was a life member at the Striber-McVicar VFW Post 2052 in Romeo, Armada AMVETS Post 93 and Utica American Legion Post 351 for many years. He loved running, biking, bowling (had a 300 game at the age of 68), softball, horseshoes, playing a game of cards or pool at the VFW and gambling. Ed is survived by his nieces - Elizabeth Schmidt (Leggett), Kimberly Leggett both of Paw Paw, MI, and Kathi Higgins of Nokesville, VA nephew - Timothy Leggett of Constantine, MI. Ed was preceded in death by sister Alma Leggett (Aikman), nieces Kathleen Ashman (Leggett) and Susan Leggett. In keeping with Ed's wishes, there will be no Funeral Services. A Burial will take place at a later date at the Romeo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Romeo Sriber-McVicar Post #2052 in memory of Ed.
