Cleona M. Thompson, age 93, a lifelong resident of the Detroit/Royal Oak area, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Romeo Nursing Center. Cleona was born October 22, 1922 in Mulberry, Kansas, the daughter of Adolf and Ruby (Mendicki) Maestri. Cleona worked for CCC Trucking Company for over 25 years, retiring in 1981 after 25 years of service as a billing clerk. Upon retirement, she enjoyed cooking and belonging to the YMCA in Royal Oak. Cleona is survived by her 3 children: Lawrence (Larry) Thompson of Detroit, Carol (John) Michoski of Washington Township and Susan (Edward) Bennett of Romeo. Grandchildren include Andrew and Michael DeRamer and Daniel, Sarah, and Adam Bennett. Also, four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Thompson in December of 1953. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday January 5, 2016 at 10 AM with Father Jerry Kessel officating. Visitation will be on Monday January 4, 2016 from 2-8. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (11851 Van Dyke Street, Detroit, MI 48234).
