Dennis Wyman Whiting, age 80, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Dennis was born August 28, 1941 in Mt. Clemens, the son of Gerald and Mildred (Raska) Whiting.Dennis married his best girl, the former ConnieNeddermeyer, on January 22, 1971 at St Clement Catholic Church. After graduating from Romeo High School in 1959, Dennis enjoyed perfecting his trade skills working as a cement mason for Vineyard Homes in Utica. In 1965, Dennis began his service to his country in the United States Army as a demolition specialist in the 1st Infantry, he was a proud member ofthe “Big Red One” while stationed in Vietnam. Uponhonorable discharge from the Army, Dennis returned to work in construction and masonry before deciding on a lifelong career in the family business, as the owner and operator of the Washington Mobile Home Park. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband to Connie for 51 years, and a wonderful father to their two daughters: Amy Burton of Macomband Jill (Michael) Lee of Romeo. To know Dennis was to understand there was no greater source of joy or pride in his life than his grandchildren; Carter & Riley Burton and Kendall & Maxwell Lee. Dennis was a generous and kind-hearted man who gave endlessly of his time, resources, talents and his big heart to family, friends and strangers alike. He was always ready with a smile, a helping hand, a joke and a listening ear for anyone he saw in need. Dennis was a master woodworker and craftsman and a lifelong boater, often looking for his next water sport or adventurous off-road vehicle to enjoy with his family. Some of Dennis’ most treasured times were those spent at the lake with his family at their second home on Mullett Lake. Dennis is also survived by his sister Nancy (Dennis) Jennings of Leonard and brother Brian (Peggy) Whiting of Lake Leelanau. He was preceded in death by his parents and by three of his siblings: Geraldine Henley, Thomas Whiting, & Karen Hill. Dennis was a very special brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and close friend to so many whose lives he touched. Visitation will take place on Tuesday February 1, 2022from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan with a 7:00 p.m. religious service with Pastor Jeffrey Draeger of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Mass of Resurrection will take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo, with burial to follow at the Romeo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations be made in Dennis’ memory to: Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washington, Michigan, or St. Clement Catholic Church in Romeo, MI or to the Gary Sinise Foundation honoring veterans and their families.
