Donald D. Vandeberghe

Donald Duane Vandeberghe, age 81 passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019, with family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Donald was born in North Dakota, on July 13, 1938 to Alfonse and Johanna (Schober) Vandeberghe. Although His father passed away when Don was only three months old, he had the love of his wonderful mother and five siblings to care for him. His family moved Mt. Clemens, Michigan shortly after his father passed away where they opened and operated at dairy farm for many years. On October 21, 1983, Donald married his beautiful bride Janette Barber where they built their life together in Allenton, Michigan. Don is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Janette, Son, Donald Jr (Rhonda ) of Caseville, Daughter, Michelle (John) Podgorski of Portage, Son, David (Teresa) of West Bloomfield, Step-Son, Ken Barber of Port Huron, and Step-Daughter, Julie Sexton of Westland, and 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Brother Jerry (Janet) of The Villages of Florida. Donald’s love of his family was paramount to him. Donald retired after 40 years of service at TRW in Romeo. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida, was an avid gardener and never missed an opportunity to be outdoors and loved nature, bird watching, fishing and hunting. We thank God for Don’s warmth, the twinkle in his beautiful brown eyes, his sincere and genuine interest he showed in everyone he met, and his deep love for his family. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 10 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church (872 Capac Rd, Allenton, MI 48002) with Father Mike Officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, October 14, 2019 from 5-8 and Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 2-8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John’s Catholic Church (872 Capac Road, Allenton, MI 48002) or Blue Water Hospice (2795 Edison Marysville, MI 48040).
