Dorothy E. Leff, age 95, a 15 year resident of the Romeo area, and formerly from Detroit, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Lake Orion Nursing Facility. Dorothy was born October 5, 1912 in Minto, North Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Riske) Wysocki. She married Vernon Lindemoen who preceded her in death in 1969 and then married Louis Leff who preceded her in 1986. She taught school for 5 years at one room school houses in North Dakota where she walked 5 miles each way to work and received $15 p/month for teaching before moving to Detroit. In Detroit, she worked at J.L. Hudsons for 30 years before retiring as one of its first female department head manager. She was instrumental in demanding that her co-manager at Hudson's be afro-American, and this made her department the first of its kind in hiring blacks. She belonged to the St Bonaventure Fraternity Order in Detroit and sewed the Capuchin's Priest's Vestments for many years. Upon moving to the Romeo area, she joined St Clement Catholic Church in Romeo. She was an National Blue Ribbon Rose Grower and belonged to the American Rose Society in Detroit. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Owen) Richie of Washington Twp. & Betty (Joe) Tocco of California. Grandchildren surviving include Mark Richie, Shawn Richie, Laura Robinson, & Suzanne, Julie, and Joe Tocco. Great grandchildren include Nicole Tocco and Kyle & Dana Robinson. Her sister-in-law Leona Wysocki of Minto, SD survives. She was preceded in death by siblings Florie, Amby, Stanley, Emil, & Clarion. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo followed by burial at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Donations to the Capuchin Retreat Center in Washington Twp., would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Henry M Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan.
