Dorothy L. VanHoutte, age 83, a resident of Armada Township since 1954, passed away on Friday April 5, 2013 at Pine View Assisted Living in Armada. Dorothy was born November 16, 1929 in Centerline, MI., the daughter of Emery and Alice (DeVisscher) Govaere. She married Albert VanHoutte on November 26, 1949 at St Mary’s Mystical Rose Catholic Church in Armada. Dorothy enjoyed garden farming with her husband Al and her children. She loved raising and selling flowers at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. She enjoyed good music & dancing. Dorothy and was a longtime member of St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo was a member of its women’s Altar Guild. Dorothy is survived by her 8 children: Jerry, Don (Jan), George (Judi), Linda (Ray) VanSteenkiste, Nancy (Jeff) Szenderski, Al (Cindy), Larry (Rene), and Maryalice (Jeff) Fennelly. Also survived by 23 loving grandchildren and 22 1/2 great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings: Irene Lukasak, Josephine (Don) Raska, Maryann (Stuart) Booth, Robert (Marilyn) Govaere and Ray (Dorothy) Govaere. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Al on January 16, 2006. Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 8 at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 4-8 and on Sunday from 2-8 with a rosary at 6 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Donations to Dorothy’s adopted son Fr. George Vadakeparampil would be appreciated. Dorothy was the definition of generosity & love by everyone that new her. We know she was sent from the Lord above. She will be missed by all.
