Earl E. Forbes, age 86, since 1974 a resident of Ray Township, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2012 surrounded by his family at his family’s home. Earl was born September 13, 1925 in Detroit, the son of Elmer and Eleanor (Umbreit) Forbes. Earl married the former Mary Lou Waligore 62 years ago, on May 20, 1950 at St Clare of Montefalco Church in Grosse Pointe. Earl served his Country proudly during WW II, where he earned a Purple Heart, a second Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star, combat infantry badge, good conduct medal, and a sharpshooter & marksman badge. After returning home, he became a lifelong landscaper. He started “Forbes Landscaping†and in the early 1960’s and 1970’s, was entrusted by the City of Detroit for the upkeep of its central business district. After moving to the Romeo area, he continued landscaping in Macomb and Oakland County. The beautiful landscaping at St Clement Catholic Church was done by Earl and his crew, of which Mary Lou and Earl have been members for many years. During the fall and winter, Mary Lou and Earl could be seen (or heard) calling square dances for many groups throughout southeast Michigan. His many interest include gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Earl is survived by his wife Mary Lou, children: Gary (Karen) Forbes of Port Townsend, Wash., Jim Forbes of Warren, John Forbes of Dallas, TX., and Julie (Maurice) Adoranti of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Also survived by grandchildren Eleanor, Sarah, Andrew, Clarice, Matthew, and Emily along with special niece Nancy (Ken) Josefiak. Preceded by his sister Doris Beste. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, August 6 at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with Fr. Jerry Kessel officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 2-9 PM with a 7 PM Rosary at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Donations to the Ray Township Fire Department would be appreciated.
