Edward J. Battani

Edward J. Battani, age 82, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Banner Boswell Hospital at his winter home in Sun City, Arizona. Ed was born July 8, 1931 in Detroit, the son of Bert and Katherine (Conley) Battani. He married Myrna M. Troden on June 12, 1954 at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo. After earning his Bachelor Degree at Eastern Michigan, Ed taught History and Gym at Romeo High School from 1953-1986. While teaching, Ed was a basketball & football coach and taught drivers education for many years. Also while teaching, he drove for Greyhound Bus Company during his breaks, active with the Romeo Lions Club, serving as its president in 1959 and helped with the Peach Queen Court for many years. Ed also drove cars at the Ford Proving Grounds for 10 years. But his love of life was the Fire Departments that he served on. He was on the Romeo Fire Department for 21 years and when Bruce Township started their own fire department, he served as the Assistant Chief for 37 years. Ed, along with his family were longtime members of St Clement Catholic Church where he served as a money counter for many years. Ed is survived by his wife Myrna of Romeo, children: Ronald, Janet Campbell, & Thomas along with grandchildren: Brandon, Christopher, Kathryn, and Anthony. Siblings include Paul (Kathy) & Raymond (Elsie). Funeral services will take place on Saturday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with burial to follow at Romeo Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 and on Friday from 2-8 with a 7:30 PM rosary at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan. Memorial contributions will be used to set up a "Battani Family Scholarship" . Make checks out to Myrna Battani.
