Emil A. Schmidt

Emil A. Schmidt, age 93, a resident of Washington Township since 1977 and formerly from Detroit, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at his home. Emil was born in Germany on May 14, 1920, the son of Emil and Lina (Heinz) Schmidt. Emil married the former Doris (Kruger) on May 14, 1949 and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2003. After serving in the US Army during WW II, Emil started to work for General Motors and retired in 1980 after 40 years of service as a supervisor of the Parts Division. Emil loved to golf, play cards, would go anywhere for a Beer Festival, enjoyed the Romeo Peach Festival, was a charter member of the Romeo Elks, and also a Life Member of the Elks Club. Along with his family, they were long time members of St John Lutheran Church of Romeo. Emil is survived by his sons: Ross (Christel) of Germany and Scott (Debra) of Canton Township, Michigan. Also survived by grandchildren: Andrea (Jerrett), Kimberly, Brittany & Shaun and great grandchildren Tyler, Peyton, & Joslynn. Emil was preceded by his brother Walter. Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 30 at 11 AM at St. John Lutheran Church of Romeo with Rev. Mark Evans officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 6-8 and on Sunday from 2-8. Burial will follow in the Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
