Ernest A Schultz

Ernest A. Schultz, age 79, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away at his daughter’s home in New Baltimore on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Ernie was born November 18, 1934 in Romeo, the son of Charles and Margaret (Knust) Schultz. He married Margaret Thompson on July 18, 1953 at St John’s Lutheran Church of Romeo and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2006. He then married Diane Johnston on September 11, 2007 and they spent the summers at her home in Estyville, PA and the winters in Port Richie, FL. Ernie worked for General Motors in maintenance for many years at their plant in Pontiac. Ernie was on the Romeo Fire Department from 1974 to 1999 and was its last Fire Chief in 1999 when the department was annexed into Bruce Township. He served his Country in the Army while stationed in Germany. Along with his family, they were longtime members of St John Lutheran Church in Romeo. Ernie is survived by his wife Diane, along with children: Anthony of Seattle Washington, Darrell (Diane) of Romeo, Penny (Mike) Kasper of Chesterfield Township, Kathy (Chuck) Lewis of Ohio, and David (Janet) Johnston of Florida. Thirteen grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren survive along with siblings: David of Romeo and Dolores (Eugene) Herron of Washington Twp. Ernie was preceded in death by his daughter Gay Ann Basnaw and his son Brian. Funeral services will take place Friday at 11 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 246 Benjamin Street, Romeo, MI 48065. Burial will follow at the Romeo Cemetery in Romeo. Visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 2 PM to 8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home. Arrangements made by the Henry M.
