Eva Wicks (Hering) December 11, 1927-November 10, 2020 age 92 of Harrison Township passed away Tuesday November 10, 2020 at Church of Christ Care Center in Macomb, Michigan. Born in Chemnitz Germany, formally Karl-Marx-Stadt to Richard (Kurt) and Anneliese Hering. Eva was a WWII German war bride. She married American Army soldier William (Bill) Wicks in 1947. Bill who was born in Canton, Ohio and his new family moved back to the United States with their son Fred in 1948. Bill and Eva were married for 38 years until his passing in 1985. Eva worked and retired from Clintondale Schools as a secretary for special education. Eva split her time between Michigan and Florida for many years. She was very active in church, German choir and volunteering into her 80’s at Habitat for Humanity painting houses. She also spoke to classrooms about her life in Germany and fleeing the Russians. She loved to travel and tend to her beautiful gardens. She liked to read, do crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Though her favorite past time was playing in the bridge club with her friends and beating us all at her favorite card game, No Name Game. She loved to win and tell you about it. She was a strong lady and never let life get her down. She had a wonderfully dry sense of humor and a “tell it like it is” disposition. She was also very caring and showed empathy for everyone, even strangers. Eva was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Annaliese Hering, her husband Bill, and sister Barbara. Eva is survived by her two sons, Fredrick Wicks of Palm Beach, Florida and John Wicks of Ray Township,Michigan.In addition Eva is survived by Grandchildren Sean (Jessica) Wicks, Shannon Card, Chris (Katie) Wicks, Melissa (Andy) Schipinski, Katie (Jay) McCormick & Jessica (Bradley) Schoenherr and 15great-grandchildren.
