Gary Peters

September 27, 1935 — December 9, 2021

Gary Peters, aged 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 9, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL, with family at his side.

Gary was a beloved son, husband, father, and friend to many in his hometown of Romeo. Born there on September 27th, 1935, he was the only child of Fred and Mary (Kosc) Peters. He was married in 1957 to his wife Dorothey of 54 years, who preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by their two children, Dale and Laurie (Dan Burke).

Gary was a life-long garden farmer and also truck driver in later years; beginning in childhood with his parents, he continued to operate and expand the farm with his own family. He was a member of Farm Bureau and also St. Clement Church of Romeo.

Most of all, Gary loved his family, his friends, his farm and his hometown of Romeo. But he had many other interests: he enjoyed music; playing harmonica, trumpet, keyboards, as well as singing. He developed a creative knack for cooking in later years, and loved to share homemade meals with friends. He was generous of heart and loved to make people laugh; always ready with a joke, poke, or good story. He was an avid card player, and loved animals, especially his dog Sandy. He was a one-of-a-kind original; uniquely loved, and will be sorely missed by many immediate and extended family and friends.

A private family burial of his cremains, alongside his wife Dorothey, took place at Bruce Armada Cemetery on August 11, 2023.
