George Farr Stiegler

George Farr Stiegler, 71, a resident of Romeo for over 30 years, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. George leaves his beloved wife JoAnne, daughter Sarah Anne Stiegler and grandson Ashton Kade Farr, all of Romeo; his only cousin Hans (Linda) Kerekesch, along with JoAnne’s siblings: sister Margaret (Frank) Grund, brother Thomas Shank, niece Anna (Yuki) Dykes, nephew Jesse Orman, and many close friends. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the only son of George and Susanna (Farr) Stiegler.  While studying Industrial Arts Education at Newark State, he met his wife, the former JoAnne Shank, while both were counselors at a summer camp in Connecticut. They were married in 1967 in Albany, Indiana, JoAnne’s hometown. George retired from General Motors at the Tech Center in Warren in 2001 after 32 years of employment.  He was well known in the community for his many activities.  Passionate about theatre, he provided theatrical lighting/sound and stage crew assistance at Romeo High School and Macomb Center for the Performing Arts for many years, mentoring and inspiring students and others.  George was also active with the Romeo Community Theatre. An avid sport shooter, he was a member of the North Macomb Sportsmans Club in Washington Township where he taught CPL classes, participated in tournaments and shared his knowledge with his family and friends.  For many years George was a commissioner for WBRW, the local cable channel.  His many hobbies included sport shooting, motorcycles, and woodworking. Funeral services and a celebration of Georges life will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 7 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-7 PM.  Memorial gifts in Mr. Stiegler’s memory can be made to the Leukemia Society (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1471 E. 12 Mile Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071).
