George J. Wiers

George J. Wiers, age 86, a lifelong Washington/Ray Township resident, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at McLaren Hospital in Mt Clemens, Michigan. George was born July 28, 1927 at his families home in Ray Township, the son of the late John and Marian (Broughton) Wiers. He Graduated from Romeo High School in 1945. He married the former Joanne A. Kirkum in 1980 at the Davis United Methodist Church. George retired from the GM Tech Center in Warren in the early 1990’s, where he worked in outside maintenance and material handling. George, along with his family, were longtime members of Davis United Methodist Church and moved to the Washington Methodist Church when the Davis Church closed. He was a Master Mason at the Davis/Macomb Temple # 64 in Davis. His hobbies include maintaining his lawn and flowers at his house and watching his grandchildren in their athletic events. George is survived by his wife Joanne of Washington Township, children: Diana (Walter) Stone of Little Elm, Texas, Geoffrey Wiers of Troy, Penny Halsey of Harrison Township and Debbie (Marvin) Cushingberry of Romeo. Also survived by 7 grandchildren along with brother Lanny Wiers and sister-in-law Mary Wiers both of Ray Township. George was preceded in death by his brother Ward. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 17 at 11 AM at the Washington United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8 PM and on Monday from 3-8 PM with a Masonic Service at 7 PM.
