G. James Welch, age 82, a 70 year resident of Romeo, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. James was born November 25, 1925 in Pontiac, the son of George J. Sr. and Ruth (Brown) Welch. He married Dolores C. Siglow on June 26, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Romeo. Jim worked at Pontiac Motors for 30 years as an assemblyman, then worked his way to being a foreman and retired as a purchasing agent in 1982. He then worked as Romeo School bus driver for 13 years and was on the Romeo Fire Department for 30 years before retiring as a Captain in the early 1990's. Jim belonged to the Romeo Masonic Lodge #41 in Romeo, belonged to the Romeo V.F.W. #2052 in Romeo, the American Legion, Post # 351 in Utica, was a charter member of the Romeo Elks, and a longtime member of the Romeo United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He also was involved in the Boy Scouts and served his Country during WW II in the Navy. Jim, along with his family loved to camp and belonged to the TTCM (Double Dozen) Camping Group. For many years they wintered in Florida. Jim is survived by his wife Dolores, children: Paul of Washington Twp., Lori of Waterford, and Timothy of Romeo. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin, sisters: Jeanie Welch & Marjorie Douglas and his brother Robert. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 1 PM at the Romeo United Methodist Church with Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Burial will follow at the Romeo Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-9 and on Thursday from 3-9 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, MI. Donations to the Romeo United Methodist Church building fund would be appreciated.
