1930, Georgette was born in Lebanon where she lived with her mom and 2 sisters. Her father was working in Detroit to earn money to bring his family to the United States. At the age of 4, Georgette traveled with her family to the US where they entered through Ellis Island. Both she and her family had to quickly learn a new culture and language while they settled into Detroit, MI. She lived there throughout her childhood and after school she got a job on the production line at Desoto’s in Detroit . At the age of 23 she met and married Albert DeMonaco. They moved to Romeo, Michigan where Georgette was a stay-at-home mom to their 3 daughters: Anna, Geralyn and Danielle. Georgette enjoyed being with her family, gardening, finding great bargains at garage sales, and playing the slots. She was a wonderful cook, always making food from scratch and insisting her children carried on the tradition of making delicious Lebanese foods such as grape leaves, kibbee and tabouli. This tradition is carried on today by her nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren. In 1991 after Albert retired, they bought a condo in Florida near family and became snowbirds. Georgette and her husband traveled from Michigan to Florida every winter for the next 20 years where she joined a bowling league, spent time socializing and gambled at the slots. They truly loved their retirement and after 50 years of marriage, Albert passed away. A few years later, Georgette decided to live in Michigan permanently where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, continued gardening and loved going to the casinos with her 2 sisters. She was a frugal gambler and never won big but often shared her winnings with family and enjoyed the thrill of the game. At the age of 85, insisting she did not want to burden her children, she made the decision to move into Wellbridge of Romeo. She became one of their favorites and was treated like family by many of the caring staff. She learned all about their lives and often on their break, the staff would sit with her as she offered wise advice about their families and love lives, usually playing match maker. She continued to have many outings to visit family, and always jumped at the chance to go on a day trip to the casino. As she aged and her casino trips became too difficult, she enjoyed playing the slots on her iPad and would get almost as excited winning fake coins as she did with real money. She had an abundance of visits from family who brought baked goods, pampered her with ‘Spa Day’, sang songs and told her about their lives whether in person or from afar with Facetime. We called her ‘The Hub’ as she loved hearing all the family news and sharing it with others. At the age of 91, Georgette said she had lived a good long life and was ready for God to take her to be with her heavenly family and husband. She was surrounded by her family at the end and was very loved. She will be dearly missed. Georgette is survived by her daughters Anna (Todd Trainor) DeMonaco, Geralyn (Walt) Jarmoluk and Danielle (John) Bingham.
