Gloria Jean Burley was born on April 25, 1944, to Olive Jean and Thomas Earl Priestaf in Detroit, Michigan. She married Dr. David C. Burley on May 23, 1969. She succumbed to ovarian cancer on November 6,2022.
Gloria is survived by her husband David and three sons, David Thomas [Lisa], Edward, and Joseph [Jennifer]. She had three granddaughters, Abigail, Kathryn, and Joella. Step grand-daughter Jillian Carter. Also survived by her brother Jim Priestaf, and her beloved English Bulldog Barnie.
Gloria graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching degree majoring in biology. She had master degrees from Oakland University and Saginaw Valley State University. She was writing her doctoral thesis for Oakland University.
Gloria first worked as an Interpretive Naturalist at Stoney Creek Metro Park. She then taught special education at St. Peter Lutheran School and Lutheran North High School in Macomb Michigan. Next she became the Michigan Director of the Lutheran Special Education Ministry and Principal of the North Detroit Lutheran School. She taught at Concordia University Ann Arbor. She later retired from the Utica Public Schools.
David and Gloria lived in Romeo for over 50 years. On retirement they moved to the Lake Huron shoreline in Deckerville, Michigan.
Gloria requested cremation and no public services. She will be interned at the Burley plot in the Ferguson Cemetery in Almont, Michigan.
Local arrangements were made by the Henry M. Mulberg Funeral Home in Romeo, Michigan.
