Gordon Akers, Sr., age 80, a resident of Almont since 2008 and previously from Florida, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital. Gordon was born September 24, 1940 in Dana, Kentucky, the son of Woodrow and Lillian (Smiley) Akers. He married Carol Burkett on January 26, 1963 in Banner, Kentucky. Gordon was a job setter for Pontiac Motors for 27 years before retiring in 1991. He previously worked for Interstate Manufacturing in Romeo. His hobbies include deer hunting & fishing. Gordon is survived by his wife Carol of Almont, children: Jill Eades of Sebring, Florida, Scotty Akers, (deceased), Gordon Akers Jr. of Melvin, Kentucky, MI., and Woodrow (Cindy) Akers of Sterling Heights. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and siblings: Rick (Fay) Akers of Marlette, MI., Gerald (Sherry) Akers of Burton, MI., and Rose (Buford) Conn of Almont. Gordon was preceded in death by his siblings: Ora Lee Akers, Roy Akers, Sandra Akers, Liz Carpenter, and Sarah Boyd. Funeral services are private with burial at McCafferety Cemetery in Bruce Township, Michigan. Local arrangements by the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan.
