Grace M. Susalla, age 89, a 27-year resident of Washington Twp. and previously from Center Line, passed away on August 1, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Grace was born in Ruth, Michigan on November 5, 1930, the daughter of Leo and Josephine (Wipping) Gentner. On October 21, 1950 she married Hilary Susalla at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Grace was a renowned baker and cook. It was a treat to be welcomed into her home and enjoy one of her delicious home-made meals or desserts. The most important thing in her life was spending time with her family. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and watching the many varieties of birds in her backyard. Her hobbies over the years included square dancing, bowling, ceramics and volunteering at Sts. John & Paul Catholic Church and the local Samaritan House. Grace is survived by her loving husband, Hilary, of Washington Twp.; children: Mary Jo (Mike Swidwinski) Kaminski of Grand Rapids, Stephen (Cheryl) Susalla of Columbus, Cynthia (Barry)Turner of Clinton Twp., Lynn (Dennis) Houbeck of Chesterfield, Lois (Douglas) Rumpz of Ravenna, Kevin (Allison) Susalla of Sterling Heights and Robert Susalla of Sterling Heights; grandchildren: Michael (Jill) Kaminski, Brian (Jordan) Kaminski, Lindsey McFarland, Jessica Scott, Leanne Turner, Steven Houbeck, Matthew (Kristen) Houbeck, Katherine (A.G.) Woods, Sheila (the late Dustin) Tjapkes, Adam (Kurstin) Rumpz, Emily (Yoni) Seevers, Conner Susalla, Olivia Susalla, Mitchell Susalla, Logan Susalla and Joseph Susalla; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Dennis (Karen) Gentner of Ruth, sister Marilyn (the late Richard) Bornais of Ortonville, brother-in-law Alvin Booms and many nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her infant son Brian, infant grandson Peter Houbeck, sister Audrey Booms, and son-in-law Les Kaminski. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. John & Paul Catholic Church - (7777 28 Mile Road , Washington Twp., MI 48094) Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Capuchin Retreat House, 62460 Mt. Vernon Road, Washington Twp., MI 48094, or a charity of your choice
