Howard D. Hester, age 82 , a 8 year resident of Imlay City, and formerly from St. James in Florida and the Romeo area , passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Angelica’s Place in Romeo. Howard was born October 12, 1930 in Spencer, Indiana the son of Dennis and Jeanette (Bremer) Hester. Howard married the former Imogene Neely on March 2, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2009. Howard graduated from Technical High School in Indianapolis in 1949 and earned an Engineering Drafting and Design degree from Tri-State College in 1959. Howard then worked for over 28 years at General Motors at the Tech center, recognized for many design patents, and retired in 1987. Howard served in Reserve Officer’s Training Corp in 1947-1948, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant and then served in the Marines from 1951-1953, receiving the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. In retirement, Howard took up wood carving. He taught carving classes and created many custom project including carousel horses and birds. Howard was a 32 degree Mason with the Masons of the Valley of Detroit and was a Moslem Shriner from Southfield. Howard is survived by his children: Dennis Hester of Imlay City, Mark (Bev) Hester of Imlay City, Sharon (John) Kuhn of Romeo and Julie Salsido of Imlay City. Grandchildren include Nicholas & Brandon Kuhn and Noelle Salsido. Also survived by siblings: Philip (Carol) Hester of Oregon, Fred (Jan) Hester of Ohio, Marian Shoopman of Indiana and sister-in-law Carol Hester and brother-in-law Arthur Bensheimer. He was preceded in death by his wife Imogene, brother Floyd and sister Lucille Bensheimer. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 1 at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with burial to follow at the Bruce-Armada Cemetery in Bruce Township.
