James B. Winchester, age 74, a 40 year resident of Washington Township, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. James was born November 22, 1936 in Paris, Tennessee, the son of Leonard and Pokie (Cox) Winchester. He married Brenda Hockett in September of 1969 in Springfield, Tennessee. For many years James was the owner/operator of Shelby Muffler & Brake Service in Shelby Township, Michigan until his retirement in 2007. Jim previously worked/owned a Standard Gas Station in Sterling Heights and a Golf Gas Station in Shelby Township before purchasing Shelby Muffler and Brake. Upon retirement he enjoyed working on old cars and watching NASCAR racing. James is survived by his wife Brenda of Washington Township: his children: Kimberly (Michael) Winchester Parks, Tamara Smith and Carrie Trent all of Tennessee. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his brother Billy Winchester, and his brother in law Waldo Stephens all of Tennessee. Jim was preceded in death by his sisters: Lois Cochrane and Mary Stephens. Funeral services will take place on Sunday at 7 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo. Visitation will also take place on Sunday from 2-7 PM.
