James Michael Schirmer, age 58 of Imlay City passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. Jim was born December 28, 1959 at the Community Hospital in Bruce Township, the son of James F. and Betty (Schapman) Schirmer. Jim was a graduate of Romeo High School, class of 1978. He then attended St Clair County Community College in Port Huron where he played basketball for the Skippers. He then worked for the State of Michigan as a Correction Officer at the Macomb Regional Correction Facility for more than 25 years, retiring in 2015. Jim is survived by his wife Donna, sons: Garet & Griffin. Also survived by his mother Betty of Washington Township, brothers Mark of St Clair and David (Michaelene) of Macomb Township. Nieces & nephews include Jacob, Jason, Matthew & Kathryn. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. Jim was preceded in death by his father James Frederic on July 22, 2009. Visitation will take place at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo on Monday, July 23 from 4-6 PM with a 6 PM religious service. Per the family request, no flowers, but memorials may be given to the family for a discretionary fund.
