James W. Ashmore

September 21, 1939 — March 18, 2018

James W. Ashmore, age 78, a resident of Washington Township for 49 years, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Advantage Living Center in Armada, Michigan. James was born September 21, 1939 in Detroit, the son of James O. and Lillian (Baxter) Ashmore. After working at a auto plant for a year, Jim decided to become a teacher. He then earned his Bachelor/Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University where he became a life member of the Theta Chi Franterity. Jim then taught 5th grade at Indian Hills Elementary School for 37 years, before retiring in 2004. After retiring he continued teaching as a substitute for many more years in the Romeo School System. Jim enjoyed being part of the Boy Scouts with Troops #1026, #256 & #123. He was a former Eagle Scout, member of the Order of Arrow, and earned the Silver Beaver award. He enjoyed taking boys to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Hi-Adventure Camp’s, and the National Jubilee in Washington DC. His civic activities include volunteering at Crittenton Hospital, being ahead of the video upgrades at the Romeo United Methodist Church where he was a member his whole life, handling the weekly recordings at his church that were shown on the local cable channel, and also being a part of Channel 6, where he produced the game show “Grand Slam/Touchdown” shows for 16 years which were a game show for kids. James is survived by his wife Sharon, children: Sharon Shelton of Ashflat, Arkansas & Edward of Fostoria, MI. Jim siblings include Louise (Craig) Salminen of Oregon and Alice (Barry) Carrigan of Grosse Ile, MI. Also survived by 5 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 26 at 11 AM at the Romeo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, (11280 32 Mile Road, Romeo Michigan 48065) with a Broken Arrow Boy Scout Memorial service at 7 PM Sunday. Burial will take place at Mt Vernon Cemetery in Washington Township, Michigan.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Romeo United Methodist Church.
