James W. Cordes, Jr., age 84, a resident of Washington Township since 1969, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. James was born March 12, 1929 in Detroit, the son of James W. and Blanche (Robertson) Cordes. He married the former Marie Kreit on October 7, 1950 in Detroit and she preceded him in death on August 23, 2001. Jim, along with his family, were owner/operators of Detroit Chemical Supply Company in Detroit since 1936. Jim was also a longtime member of the First Congregation Church of Romeo where he was a Deacon/Treasurer for many years. He served his Country in the Army during the Korean War, President and a member of the Romeo Rotary Club for many years , and in his spare time loved to drive his sports car around town. Jim was the fast pitch champion of Detroit in 1949 where he excelled as the teams pitcher. James is survived by his three sons: Stephen A. (Lorette) of Romeo and their children: Paul (Amy) with their daughter Olivia & Jason (Camille) and their son Peyton, Jonathon W. of Detroit, and James (Dawn) of Armada. Also survived by his sister Janet Clay of Sterling Heights and was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Dickinson. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 11 AM at the First Congregational Church of Romeo with Rev. Sherry Schacht officiating. Donations to the Romeo Goodfellows would be appreciated. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 3-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan.
