Janet Ann Garland

Janet Ann Garland, age 75, a longtime resident of Romeo, passed away February 16, 2023at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township.

Janet was born March 20, 1947 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of John Thomas McEathron and Greta Cecil (DeRoche) McEathron. She was brought home in a snow storm. Janet attended Big Beaver Elementary School, Larson Jr. High School, then graduated from Troy High School in 1965, 15th in a class of 250. After high school, Janet attended Oakland University, where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education. She made it through the program in only 3 years.

Janet married Tom Baldwin in 1967. She taught one year at Ewell Elementary, before moving to Almont, and teaching at Almont Elementary, then Orchard Primary, until she retired in 1999. Janet met Paul Garland in 1985, and they married in 1986. Janet enjoyed volunteering in her grandchildren’s schools, volunteering at Romeo Preschool, Little Lambs, and Amanda Moore until 2020. Janet was also very active in the UMC, attending the Romeo UMC from 1985-1996, and the Utica UMC from 1996-2014.

Janet was proud of her accomplishments, including starting HARTS (Happy Almont Retired Teachers and Staff) in 1999, the Sharing Tree at Amanda Moore, starting the Utica UMC, Crafty Ladies, and God’s Girls at Shepherd’s Gate.

Janet is survived by her husband, Paul Garland, daughter Krista (Gerald) Willette, and grandchildren Andrew and Amanda.

Visitation will be held Monday February 20, 2023 from 2PM-8PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 21, 2023 at 10AM at Shepherd’s Gate Church (12400 23 Mile Rd, Shelby Township, MI 48315).
