Janice Ellen Evans, age 78, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital. She was a resident of Romeo, Michigan since 1987, and previously from Freeland, Michigan, North Dakota, and born in Ohio. Jan was born March 5, 1946 the daughter of Robert and Hilda (Cory) Wearly. She married Reverend Mark Evans 56 years ago, on June 22, 1968 in Middletown, Ohio. After doing her undergraduate work at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and obtaining her Masters Degree in Education at Saginaw Valley, she was a teacher and principal at many schools. She retired from teaching in the Eastpointe School System but worked at Fenton Elementary, Lee Elementary Richmond, and Indian Hills Elementary in Romeo. While living in Freeland, Michigan, she was the president of the school board at St. John’s Lutheran in Romeo and Zion Lutheran Church. In Freeland, she was an organist/choir director. Jan was a beloved piano teacher for most of her life. She was secretary for the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony, and a member of the Saginaw Choral Society.
Janice is survived by her husband Mark, children: Lisa (Faron) Eddy and their son Brock, Jeremy (Hillary) and their son Markus, and Jeff (Jim). Grandchildren include Paige, Garrett, Brock, and Markus. Jan is survived by her brother, Reed Wearly.
A graveside service will take place on Monday, October 14 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio. A memorial service at St John’s Lutheran Church in Romeo is being planned. Local arrangements by the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan.
