Joan Betty Brockmann, a Romeo resident for 45 years, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Village Rehabilitation and Care Center of Armada. Joan was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 1924 in Detroit, the daughter of Patrick and Marie (Shields) Galloway. While still attending high school, she began working at the Bank of the Commonwealth of Detroit, where she remained for nearly twenty years . Joan married Gordon G. Brockmann on May 12th, 1962. In 1969, they moved to the Romeo area where they built their beloved home. Joan was employed by Lionel Trains, and was a long-time cashier at the Romeo Kmart before retiring. An avid reader, she loved gardening, canning and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon sticky buns. Most of all, she treasured her children, grandchildren and her extended family of numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her many neighbors and friends. Joan is survived by her children, Leonard Brockmann of Romeo, Colleen (Jim) Malburg of Romeo, Kelly Green of Ferndale, and grandchildren Kasey, Rachel, Lauren, Dallas, Mitchell, Chance and Daniel. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1985; her brothers George and Patrick, and her sister Sheila. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, September 5th from noon to 3 p.m. at the Striber-McVicar VFW Post #2052 in Romeo. Donations in her name may be made to Toys for Tots at www.toysfortots.org.
