Joann M. Vermander, age 84, a resident of Leonard Michigan since 1973 passed away at the Orchard Grove Health Campus Romeo, Michigan. Joann was born September 7, 1933 in Detroit, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Karrer) Schmidt. She married Richard L. Vermander on October 4, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseville, Michigan and he preceded her in death on December 1, 1994. Joann was a homemaker her whole life, but had many interests and hobbies including praying the rosary, going to the St. Clair River to watch freighters go by, sewing, helping out with elections in Addison Township and mostly being a loyal Detroit Tiger fan. Joann is survived by her children: Kenneth (Kathy) Vermander, Gary (Mary Ann) Vermander, Gail Vermander, & Peggy Vermander of. Grandchildren include Phillip (Loni) Vermander, Kylee (Dave) Mulcahy, Brian (Marion) Vermander, Jodi (Curtis) Skipinski, and Dan (Kayli) Vermander. Lastly, 7 great grandchildren and several other extended family members. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen in 2012. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 4 at 10 AM at St Cornelius Catholic Church of Dryden with Fr. Wayne Ureel officiating. Burial will follow in the Bruce Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday from 3-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home with a 7 PM rosary. Donations to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen would be appreciated.
