John A. Dvorak, age 89, a 41 year resident of Washington Township, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his home. John was born February 7, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Anton and Mary (Martinek) Dvorak. He married the former Adelyne C. “Ade†Horn on August 30, 1947 at St Procup Catholic Church in Cleveland and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2013. John graduated from Case Western University with a degree in mechanical engineering. After moving to Michigan, John was a co-owner of Solaronics in Rochester, Michigan from 1973 till 1990, when he retired as its Executive Vice President. Upon retirement, John and Ade loved to travel and attend and host all types of family functions. John also was an avid reader, loved NASCAR racing, football games, yard work, water color painting, gardening, wood working, fishing, and history of WW II and the Civil War. John proudly served his country in the Army/Air Force in World War II. During the war, he was a navigator/radar operator where he had the nickname “Mickey Man†on a B-17 with the 8th Air Force, 379 Bomber Group. After the War, he was involved in many reunions of the 379th group and attended their last reunion this year in Nashville, TN. Awards earned during the War included Air Medal w/1 OLC, American Campaign Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, & WW II Victory Medal. Along with his family, they were long time members of St Clement Catholic Church in Romeo. John is survived by his children: James (Pam), Jean (Steve), Patricia (Tom), Margaret, Elizabeth (Joe), and Jane. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. John was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Toledo. Funeral services will take place on Monday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with burial on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Great Lakes Veteran Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Visitation will be on Saturday from 6-8 and on Sunday from 2-7 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Donations to the Disabled American Veterans would be appreciated.
