John C. Hanley Jr., age 73, of Deckerville, formerly of Romeo, passed away Wednesday September 26, 2018 at the Deckerville Community Hospital. He was born January 17, 1945 in Tecumseh, the son of the late Charles and Marion (Breitenwisher) Hanley. He grew up in the Romeo area graduating from Romeo High School in 1963. He received a Bachelors of Science degree from Oakland University and graduated from the Maritime Academy in Traverse City in 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and later served as 1st Mate on several of the Great Lakes Freighters. John married Mary L. Marsoupian on February 3, 1983. He enjoyed playing golf at Huron Shores Golf Club, reading, yard work, and handy work around his home. He was a member of the International Shipmasters Association and the Croswell American Legion Post 225. John is survived by his wife, Mary Hanley of Deckerville; one son Jay Hanley of FL; one brother Richard (Rhonda) Hanley of Romeo; god son Michael J. Marsoupian of CA; god daughter McKenna McCracken of CO; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. A visitation to honor the life of John C. Hanley will be held Sunday October 14, 2018 from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM., at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home 11280 32 Mile Road Romeo, MI. Military honors will be performed at 3 PM. Cremation has taken place at the May Memorial Crematory in Port Huron and was handled by the Apsey Funeral Home, Deckerville Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sanilac County Humane Society (3847 Sheldon Street Carsonville, MI 48419.)
