John Fischer, age 86, went to be with his Lord March 28, 2016. John was born in Detroit, September 8, 1929 to August and Maria Fischer. He was a graduate of Denby High, attended Lawrence Tech and was hired as a mechanical engineer by General Motors. After 5 years of courtship, he married Marilyn Potz on June 8, 1952, and soon after entered the service with the Coast Guard on the ice breaker Mackinaw. They raised their 3 children initially in East Detroit, then Warren, before finally moving to Shelby Township where they now reside. John retired in 1992 from GM after nearly 40 years, and was free then to enjoy winters in Florida and summers at the family lake cottage in northern Michigan. Traveling, water sports, and everything to do with family were his pleasures. He served the Lord faithfully wherever he was, in formal ways at church, and casual conversations with neighbors on his daily walks. John was always looking to lend a helping-hand to others. John leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to his Lord and his family; Marilyn, his wife of 63 years, 3 children John (Cindy), Lynn Boyer (Michael), Greg (Cherrie), 6 grandchildren Karen Cant (Tim), Marie White (Justin), Eric, Mike Okamoto (Mayumi), Derek (Suzy), Marcie Wilson (Travis) and 5 great-grandchildren Yuna Okamoto, Kelsey Cant, Ryusei Okamoto, Madoc Wilson, Carter Cant.
