John J. Salsido

John J. Salsido, age 81, a 39 year resident of Romeo and formerly from Detroit, passed away at his home on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008.  John was born Dec. 27, 1926 in Croswell, MI., the son of Thomas and Trinidad (Padilla) Salsido.  He married the former Lucille Rodriguez on May 15, 1954 at St Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown, MI. Along with his sons, John & Rick, John worked as a painter for Salsido's Painters for many years.  He previously worked 31 years (and never missed a day) at the Clark's Street Cadillac Plant in Detroit as a repairman before retiring in 1981.  Growing up he worked in the sugarbeet fields in the Thumb area.  Upon coming back from WW II where he served in the Army, he got trained as a landscaper and was instrumental in planting thousands of trees in the thumb area.  Along with his family, they helped organize the Spanish Masses at St Clement Catholic Church for over 20 years.  He also belonged to the Striber-McVicar Post #2052 in Romeo.       John is survived by his wife Lucille of Romeo,  children :  John (Julie) of Imlay City, Rick of Romeo, Ramona (Dennis) Hunko of Sterling Heights, and Rachel (Chun) Siev of Bad Axe.  Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and siblings Tony of Lincoln Park and Joseph (Regina) of Gagetown. He was preceded by his siblings Jesse, Louis, & Thomas.       Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with Fr. Jerry Kessel, Capuchin officiaitng.  Burial will take place at Bruce-Aramda Cemetery in Bruce Twp. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 6-9 and on Wednesday from 2-9 with a 7 PM rosary at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home Romeo.
