John S. Voorhees, age 75, a resident of the Romeo area since 1950, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his home in Romeo. John was born August 3, 1941 in Pontiac, MI., the son of Seymour and Elma “Jean” (Martin) Voorhees. John graduated from Romeo High School in 1959, the first year that the “New” High School had opened. He married Carol Gould on June 12, 1965 in Houghton/Hancock while John was finishing up his Bachelor’s Degree at Michigan Tech University. John was one of the first employees to work on computers, being a system’s analyst with General Motor’s Fisher Body and then retired from EDS, also at the GM Tech Center in Warren in 1999. His hobbies include being an avid photographer, active with the Romeo Senior Citizens with his wife Carol, belonging to both the Detroit Sportsman Congress and North Macomb Sportsman Club, liked to do genealogy of his family, and belonged to the Romeo First Congregational Church for many years. John is survived by his wife Carol, 2 sons: Steven & Greg both of Romeo along with grandchildren Ashley, Charles, and Sarah. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11 AM at the Faith Freewill Baptist Church (64395 Romeo Plank Road, between 29 & 30 Mile Road, Ray Michigan 48096.)Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home (11280 32 Mile Road, Romeo Michigan 48065) Donations to the Romeo Senior Citizens or Hospice of Michigan would be appreciated.
