Jon R. Howington, age 71, a 37 year resident of Columbus Twp., passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 at his home. Jon was born October 13, 1937 in Buford, Georgia, the son of Garland and Edna (Bagby) Howington. He married Lavon Weiss at Christ Church in Detroit on Apr. 30, 1960. Jon was a lifelong educator, teaching forensic science 37 years at Macomb Community College, before retiring in 2007. His education included his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Wayne State University. He continued his education with Post Graduate work at Cambridge University in England and also at Western Michigan University. Before teaching, he spent 12 1/2 years as a Detroit Police Officer and retired as a Sergeant. Along with his family, they have owned/operated “Creative Corner” in Romeo for over 30 years. His hobbies included reading, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Jon is survived by his wife Lavon, children: Keith (Susan) Howington of California, Shelley (Jim) Gordon of Colorado, and Craig (Amy) Howington of Columbus Twp. Grandchildren include Michael, Kara, Amanda, Willow, Christopher, Jonathon, Natasha (Chris) and Jon’s great granddaughter Addison. Memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, June 20 from 11 AM-2 PM at the Golden Hawk Golf Course. Arrangements by the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan.
