Joseph G. Cutajar passed away August 7, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88. Joe was born Guzeppi George Cutajar on December 23, 1932, son of Michael and Dolores (Tabone) Cutajar. He grew up in the town of Qormi in his native Malta where he persevered through the Siege of Malta during WWII. He married Vinnie Agius on October 18, 1959, and the newlyweds emigrated to Detroit, MI three weeks later. After living in Detroit for a few years, they started a family and moved to Sterling Heights. They moved again in 1976 to the Romeo area where they have resided ever since. As a young man in Malta, Joe trained as a tailor, operating his own shop for a time, before emigrating to the U.S. His first jobs in Detroit were related to his skill as a tailor, but he soon shifted into the automotive industry working 8 years at Chevrolet followed by a 30-year career at Ford Motor Company. Joe and Vinnie became proud U.S. citizens on May 18th 1965. He was a proud retiree of Ford Motor Company. He loved his family, working in his garden, music from the likes of Doris Day and Dean Martin, and mostly telling countless stories. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Vinnie Cutajar of Washington Twp; his daughter Joanne (Donald) Stein of Almont, MI; his sons Alex Cutajar of Washington Twp, David (Terese) Cutajar of Washington Twp, MI, and James (Sisca) Cutajar of Elkhart, IN. His surviving grandchildren are Mary Stein, James (Caitlin) Stein, Dominic, Josephina & Dimitri Cutajar, Andrew Cutajar, and his great-granddaughter Madeline Stein. Also surviving, Sister, Doris, and brothers: Fred (Eva), Carmelo, George (Rose), and Gaetano. Joseph is also the Uncle of Theresa English, Michael Cutajar, Tony Talbot, Joseph Cutajar and Janet Stover. Visitation will be held at Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 from 3 to 8pm with a Rosary service at 7. He will lie in state at SS. John and Paul Catholic Church at 9 am on August 13th, 2021 with the funeral Mass immediately following at 9:30 The funeral service will be livestreamed at ssjohnandpaul.org for those loved ones that cannot be with us.
