Joyce E. Kleehammer/Smith, nee Barker, a 4 year resident of Rochester Hills, and formerly from Macomb Township/Beverly Hills, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Joyce was born July 19, 1927 in Detroit, the daughter of Wilson and Pauline (Taylor) Barker. Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands, Erwin Smith and Robert Kleehammer. Joyce worked for over 30 years in the Birmingham School District as a cook, before retiring in the mid 1990’s. Upon retiring, she worked as a caretaker for many years. She belonged to many churches over the years, including Preston Methodist Church in Detroit, Birmingham Methodist Church, and Beverly Hills Methodist Church. Her hobbies included doing crosswords, cooking, and especially being with her many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her children: Thomas (Ann) Kleehammer of Seattle, Washington, Jerry (Karalee) Kleehammer of Tallahassee, Florida, Jerry (Linda) Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jay (Sharman) Smith of Rochester Hills, MI., Susey Smith of Oakland, MI., and Beth Kleehammer of Rochester, MI. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and siblings: Richard (Barbara) Barker of Wilmore, Kentucky, Virginia Taylor of New Baltimore, MI., and Julia Cheek of Muncie, Indiana. Joyce was preceded in death by her son Scott Smith. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, January 22 at 5 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home with visitation from 2-5 on Saturday.
