Karen J. Townsend

Karen J. Townsend, age 63, a lifelong resident of Richmond, Michigan, passed away at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital on November 12, 2023 with family by her side. Karen was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on August 30, 1960, the daughter of Janet Griffin (Babel) and step father Robert Griffin.

Karen graduated from Richmond High School the class of 1978. She then went on to Ferris State, where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree. She retired from General Dynamics as a Safety Engineer.

Karen was a member of 4H as a child, and enjoyed reading, planting flowers, playing cards, and a good joke! She also loved watching freighters go by on the Saint Clair River, and going for rides in the country, but most of all, she enjoyed raising her family.

Karen is survived by her loving husband Brent, their sons Brandon Townsend of Lansing, and Matthew Townsend of Richmond and her siblings, Jane Kulman of Grand Rapids, and Daniel (Julianne) Kulman of Petoskey, Michigan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 3-8PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI. Funeral Services will be on Monday, November 20, 2023 with a short visitation from 10-11am, with service beginning at 11, at St. John Lutheran (246 Benjamin Street) in Romeo, MI. Luncheon to follow immediately after the service.
