Karen L. Watterson, age 80, a lifelong Romeo resident, passed away at home on January 2, 2024. Karen was born March 1, 1943, the daughter of Edward and CarollStriber. Karen's career in life was split between being a homemaker and in her later years; she used her skills, love, and passion for cooking and worked as a cook for the Romeo Golf Course, Romeo Pub, and Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan.
Karen is the last immediate survivor of a large and close-knit family, most of whom lived in Romeo. She will leave behind that legacy of valuing and the importance of maintaining family bonds. Those who knew and loved her will remember her for her sense of humor, infectious laughter, and appreciation for the small, simple things in life that nurture the childlike wonder of things. Her most notable characteristics will forever be her strength of character, resilience, and avid determination to live her life on her terms.
Karen was a compassionate animal lover, passionate about music, enjoyed a good meal, and found the most solace in nature surrounded by the flowers she planted. She is survived by her daughters Leslie Gelman of Colorado and Kathryn (Bonnie Burke) Watterson of Pleasant Ridge, and grandchildren Benjamin Gelman of San Francisco and Connor Gelman of Colorado.
