Katherine (Katie) Bachholzky Bach, age 103, a lifelong Allenton area resident, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2013 at the Shelby Nursing Center. Aunt Katie and her brother Frank, were children of John and Katherine (Schuld) Bachholzky, grew up on their farm in Allenton. Aunt Katie attended Armada High School and after graduation she left for Detroit to study to be a secretary at the Detroit Business Institute. After a few years of experience, she acquired a position at Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool in Detroit, where after more than 40 years of employment, retired when she reached the age of 62 in 1971. In 1939, her brother Frank’s wife died, leaving him raising 4 children, Frank Jr. 11, Barbara Jean 9, Kitty 7, and Bobby 5. The children were then raised by her parents, and each Friday night, Katie would take the bus home to help her parents with the kids, and then take the bus back to Detroit on Sunday night. She did this for many years until her retirement. “That’s called Loveâ€. After retirement, she moved back home and took care of her parents till they passed away. After their deaths, she sold the farm and moved to an apartment in Almont, where she continued to live a full and active life with her many friends and family. As Katie aged, health issues started to crop up, from a broken hip, a mastectomy, and at the age of 97, a stroke. At this time, she needed more care and ended up at the Shelby Nursing Center where she spent the last 7 years. For many years at the Nursing Home, she was very active, but at the end, she went out slowly like a candle. Aunt Katie is survived by her loving nieces & nephews, Barbara Jean (Del) Fox, Kitty (Wally) Maxwell, Bob (Lynnette) Bachholzky, Donna (Jerry dec.) Stasio, Richard (Louise) Bacholzky Patty Bacholzky & Virginia (Joseph) Judge. Also survived by 22 great nieces & nephews, 30 great great, and 3 great great great nieces & nephews. Aunt Katie was preceded in death by her brother Frank, nephew Frank Jr., his wife Boots Bacholzky, and their daughter Carol Georgeff. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. David Pratt of the Heritage Methodist Church of Snover, Mi. officiating. Burial will follow in the West Berlin Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday from 3-8 PM. Donations to St John Catholic Church, Almont First Congregational Church, or to the Romeo United Methodist Church would be appreciated or charitly of your choice.
