Katie M. Winters

Katie M. Winters, age 89, a 65 year resident of Romeo went to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. Katie was born April 13, 1928 in Hancock, Maryland, the daughter of Howard W. and Virginia (Butler) Bishop. She married Calvin Winters 70 years ago on March 27, 1948 at his home in Bloomington, Maryland. Katie loved her many children, especially her grandchildren. Katie is survived by her husband Cal, children: twins Marlene (Richard) Dickson of Lenox and Darlene (Jerry) Gallagher of Utica, Tim (Gloria) of Romeo, Mike (Ersella) of Shelby Township, Sherry (Charlie) Gomes of Bruce Twp., Doug (Terri) of Romeo, Cindy Winters of Washington Twp., Deenie (Dave) Degroff of Richmond, Sheila (Jim) Sangster of Shelby Twp., Jewell (Ed) Prieskorn of Washington Twp., Kim (John) Guerra of Bruce Twp., Greg (Wendy) of Washington, and Kelly (Paul) VanHaverbeck of Almont. Also survived by 37 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and her sister Betty Ellifritz of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Katie was preceded in death by her infant children Sandra L., Calvin Jr., & Gary M., and by her siblings & their spouses: Arzella (Carl) Smith & Gene (Tiny) Bishop both of Keyser, WV., Ralph (Mae) Bishop of Corriganville, MD., Morris (Marion) Bishop of Utica, MI., Twila (Pete) Corbin of Almont, and Madeline (Lawrence) Shillingburg of Manassas, VA. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Stoney Creek Community Church (11711 26 Mile Road, Washington, Michigan 48094) with Rev. Michael Veatch of the Mosaic Midtown Church of Detroit officiating. Burial will follow in the Romeo Cemetery. Donations to St Jude’s Children’s Research would be appreciated. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-8 and on Monday from 2-8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan.
