Leonard J. Thuemmel, age 67, a 42 year resident of Romeo, passed away on Saturday, June 21 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Twp.  Leonard was born April 1, 1941 in Port Austin, MI., the son of Robert and Verneta (Voelker) Thuemmel.  Leonard married Ethel Hienton on April 27, 1963 in Ohio.  He graduated with a teaching degree from Ferris State University and then taught in the Romeo School System in its business and typing classes.  After school activities included many years of coaching girls basketball, volleyball and softball.  He was the founder/organizer of the Romeo Girls Softball Tournament for 10 years.  In 1987 his Alwards Market Fastpitch team won the Wisconsin-Michigan Regional Tournament and played in the ASA National Finals in Boulder, Colorado. He was a registered official with the MHSAA and umpired recreational softball for the Romeo Parks & Rec. and Rochester RARA. He was also a member of the Eastside Volleyball Officials Association.  Upon retirement, he worked at Serra Automotive in Washington Twp., and enjoyed traveling & cruises with his family and longtime friends, Richard  & Phyllis Gabler.      Leonard is survived by his wife Ethel of Romeo, children:  Becky (Rex) Omonode of W. Lafayette, Indiana, Robert (Etiene) Thuemmel of Shanghai, China, and Heidi (Mohamed) Amhdar of Richmond.  Grandchildren include Alaina, Jaelyn, & Mariere.  Also survived by siblings:  Nancy (Al) Schubring of Arizona, Dan (Vivian) Thuemmel & sister-in-law Martha Thuemmel both of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert.     Funeral services will take place on Monday at 3 PM  at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. Mark Evans of St John Lutheran Church officiating.  Donations to the "Youth for Christ" would be appreciated. Visitation: Visitation Times Sunday 4-8 & Mondy noon-5 Malburg Funeral Home
