Lois J. Harper, age 87, a resident of the Romeo area for the last 20 years, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at her home. Lois was born June 2, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Bernard and Jean (Pokladok) Seurynck. Lois married Harvey Schmidt whom she had three children with and he preceded her in death in 1985. Lois worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime. Some of those include secretarial work and waitressing. She eventually became owner/operator of the “Silvertop Bar” in Indian River, Michigan. After a devastating fire in 1986, she moved back to live with her daughter and family in Romeo, Michigan. Over the next several years, Lois and her son Gary traveled to many states selling their “German Roasted Almonds”. Upon retirement in 2006, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the casinos, looking at her pictures, and traveling with her daughter Sue. Lois is survived by her children: Michael (Maryhelen) Schmidt of Indian River, Gary Schmidt of Romeo, and Susan (Dennis) Vandeberghe of Richmond. Lois has four sisters: Faye Marlin (deceased), Joyce Klein, Judy Wilhelm & Diane Wittner. Also survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 2-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 with viewing from 10 AM-10:45 AM with service at 11 AM at Grace Lutheran Fellowship in Bruce Township, Michigan. Donations to the Leader Dogs for the Blind would be appreciated.
